Biography

 

 

With acrylic paint, Amanda Adams explores a simplistic sense of belonging. Born into ‘The Electric City’ and raised in the small town of Eynon, right on the outskirts of Scranton, Pennsylvania, Amanda Adams was brought into the world on her mother’s own birthday, March 9, 1992. In her youth, she had a great passion for dancing at her aunt’s dance academy and playing recreational as well as competitive soccer. Around the same time her parents Mark and Marybeth Adams divorced and she channeled her confusion and energy towards her escalating interest in art at the young age of 8. After being an only child for 12 years with already a decent sized family, her father expanded their family by remarrying Sherry, who gave Amanda her first sister Samantha, who was born in 2004. A few years later an unfortunate incident occurred in which Amanda lost her mother the summer before her junior year in high school. Once again she channeled her inner artistic ability and used this ill-fated event to fuel the fire, leading her to further develop her artistic eye and talent. Another blessed distraction graced her life when another sister, Makenna, was born in 2009. Throughout the duration of her senior year, Ms. Adams was recognized for her artistic abilities by receiving Artist of the Month: Art for All Seasons, for August 2010 in The Times-Tribune, WVIA’s Artist of the Week, a Gold Key, Silver Key and Certificate of Merit in the Scholastic Art Awards Competition at Marywood University as well as being awarded the Danielle Famarelli Scholarship upon graduating for her accomplishments and pursuing a career in art. While attending the Kutztown University of Pennsylvania to work towards receiving her B.F.A. in Fine Arts concentrating in Painting, Amanda touched upon a variety of different aspects within the art world but very much enjoying painting and fine metals. Not only did she find her niche with painting, but also explored her interest in the self, body and mind, which led her to minoring in Psychology for the possibility of furthering her education within the career of Art Therapy. During the summer of 2013, Amanda did an internship with helping create and design jewelry for Sorrelli, a family run business right in Kutztown. This is the exact opportunity that landed her in currently being employed as the full-time design assistant with just finishing her college degree in May 2014.
